Syngenta Complement Super: A New-Generation Adjuvant 💧

Complement Super is a high-performance adjuvant developed by Syngenta, not a standalone herbicide or pesticide. Its primary function is to significantly enhance the efficacy of water-based pesticide formulations, including herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides, by improving their physical properties and interaction with the target plant. As an adjuvant, it is designed to be mixed with the primary crop protection product in the spray tank.

Key Characteristics and Technology

The product is a new-generation, highly effective non-ionic surfactant / spreader / wetter / penetrant. Its active ingredient is Polyether-polymethylsiloxane-copolymer (present at 1000 g/L), an organo-modified siloxane technology. This siloxane base gives it superior spreading and wetting capabilities compared to traditional surfactants.

Mechanism of Action and Benefits

Complement Super works by lowering the surface tension of the spray solution dramatically. This reduction allows the spray droplets to spread more completely over waxy leaf surfaces, preventing beading and increasing the contact area (wetting and spreading). Crucially, the organosiloxane structure also facilitates rapid penetration of the active pesticide ingredient into the plant tissues.

The key benefits of using Complement Super include:

• Improved Penetration: Faster uptake of systemic and semi-systemic products (herbicides and fungicides) into the plant.

• Enhanced Efficacy: The improved coverage and uptake boost the biological performance of the tank-mixed chemical, potentially allowing for the use of the lowest labeled pesticide rates, which can lead to cost savings and reduced environmental load.

• Increased Deposition: Better retention of the spray solution on the leaf surface.

Application and Safety

Complement Super is generally recommended for use with various crop protection products, particularly herbicides, at a rate specified on the label, often around 100 ml per hectare, irrespective of the water volume. Proper mixing involves filling the spray tank partially, starting agitation, adding the pesticide, and then adding Complement Super while continuing agitation.

Safety Precautions are essential, as the product is classified as a hazardous substance (e.g., harmful if inhaled and causes serious eye irritation). Users must wear suitable personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, and follow all warnings and first-aid measures detailed on both the Complement Super and the tank-mixed pesticide labels. It should be stored locked-up and kept out of reach of children.
